Affordable Homes Designed for Later Life

Long-Term Housing for Local People

We’re proposing a low-density development of affordable homes for older people, designed to be secure, peaceful and surrounded by nature. Flats will be arranged around a shared courtyard, with winter gardens and outdoor space. All homes meet HAPPI standards for light, space and accessibility.

They will be owned and managed by the Charity, with no market sales or Right to Buy, and prioritised for local people over 50 in unsuitable housing—such as retired residents, key workers, those with disabilities and downsizers.

The design supports wellbeing and connection to nature in later life.

Did you know?

Almshouses are affordable homes provided by charities, primarily for older people in need. Typically arranged around courtyards, they foster a strong sense of community and support independent living while offering companionship and assistance when needed. Research indicates that living in an almshouse can improve well-being and even extend life expectancy.

The courtyard design takes inspiration from traditional almshouses, creating a sociable and sheltered shared space. Image for illustrative purposes only; final designs may change.
